Microsoft, which has been shaping the technology market for over half a century, has played a key role in laying the groundwork for the current era of AI. Below, we present 15 breakthrough moments—milestones that led to the creation of the world’s most trusted artificial intelligence platform.
1. Bing and the Birth of Smart Search
Bing debuted in 2009 and incorporated machine learning capabilities from the very beginning. Thanks to the acquisition of Powerset in 2008, the search engine introduced semantic technology, offering query suggestions and an exploration panel with related topics. This was the first step toward understanding user intent in natural language. The system continued to improve in this regard, often surprising users with its ability to grasp contexts that were by no means obvious.
