Sales reporting and analytics transformation with Microsoft Fabric

History of cooperation

The client is a leading pharmaceutical company in Poland, offering a broad portfolio of over-the-counter and prescription drugs. The company has been investing in research and development for years, successfully developing its presence in both domestic and international markets. Faced with dynamic growth and the increasing complexity of its sales operations, the company needed a solution that would enable it to make faster and more accurate business decisions.

The Onex Group team was chosen as an implementation partner because of its expertise in the Microsoft Fabric area and its consulting approach based on the client’s real needs.

Goals

What goals have we covered?

During the implementation, we adopted the goal of supporting the client in defined strategic areas, the resolution of which had a direct impact on the company’s ability to scale and manage data effectively. Each of the following goals formed the foundation for the implementation of Microsoft Fabric:

Creating a single version of truth (Single Source of Truth)

The goal was to build a central source of data to replace distributed spreadsheets and manual operations, eliminating inconsistencies and the risk of errors, delays and inconsistent decisions.

Automate and accelerate international sales reporting

Looking to increase scalability, the company sought to simplify and automate the process of consolidating data from multiple markets to speed up reporting without increasing headcount.

Build a scalable and AI-ready data architecture

The company needed a flexible platform to integrate subsidiaries and implement AI-based predictive analytics.

Provide access to data for business users

The company wanted to enable business departments to access data independently and instantly, without the need for an IT team.

Increase the level of security and regulatory compliance of data

Due to the nature of the industry and the high sensitivity of sales data, the company needed to implement access control mechanisms in line with organizational policies and industry regulations.

Build a technical foundation and delegate authority to the client team

A key goal was not only to create a powerful environment based on Microsoft Fabric, but also to train the client's team so that the company could create and modify reports on its own, developing a culture of self-service analytics and becoming independent of IT support for daily data work.

Implementation

How did we respond to the client's needs?

We began our collaboration with Azure Innovate’s Proof of Value program, which allowed the client to test the Microsoft Fabric platform on its own data in real-world conditions. This approach allowed us to quickly build trust and precisely define the scope of the full implementation.

We then carried out a comprehensive project consisting of several key stages:

Stage

Microsoft Fabric OneLake data centralization

All sales data was consolidated into a single data lake, creating a consistent analytical foundation for the entire organization.
1
Stage
Stage

Automation of data integration and transformation processes

We used Azure Data Factory and Fabric Data Engineering to automatically retrieve, process and filter data. This reduced time-consuming manual activities.
2
Stage
Stage

Implementation of self-service analytics in Power BI

The client's team was trained to create and edit their own reports. This gave business users independent access to the data.
3

Stage

Data security at the user access level

We implemented row-level security mechanisms using Entra ID and Microsoft Purview, providing full control over who has access to what data.

Result

What have we achieved?

Implementing Microsoft Fabric allowed the client to automate reporting and build a scalable data architecture that addresses growing operational complexity. It was also critical for us to delegate authority to the business team so that it could operate independently of IT – the foundation of a mature, data-driven organization ready for further growth and use of AI.
